RV Street Dogs Honored by State Veterinary Association

Each year the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) conducts an awards program to honor those whose service has contributed significantly to the veterinary profession in Oregon.

On March 8 Talent-based Rogue Valley Street Dogs received the OVMA’s Veterinary Service Award in ceremonies on the Oregon State University campus in Corvallis. RVSD Board President Laurie Cuddy accepted on behalf of the organization and its many volunteers.

The award recognizes an individual, organization, or company that has promoted the veterinary profession and/or the well-being of animals. Emphasis is placed on educating the public, research, or the practice of veterinary medicine. The nominee contributes to the public education and advancement of animal care in Oregon.

Since 2013 Rogue Valley Street Dogs (www.roguevalleystreetdogs.org) has helped pets in need. In part, RVSD’s mission is to fund and facilitate spay-neuter and many other essential services to improve the lives of disadvantaged companion animals.

Dr. Gail Colbern, DVM, owner of Greensprings Mobile Veterinary Service and affiliated with Bear Creek Animal Clinic in Ashland, nominated RVSD. Her statement of support emphasized that “Street Dogs conducts regular outreach events to help provide food, gear (leashes, collars, harnesses, and coats), vaccines, prevention, and other necessities to improve the lives of pets affected by houselessness and poverty in the Rogue Valley.”

“We are truly thankful to receive this recognition,” said Cuddy. “And we look forward to continued mutually beneficial relationships with everyone in the veterinary profession throughout the Valley and beyond.”

Local television station KOBI provided a report about the award designation and produced this segment highlighting Rogue Valley Street Dog’s contributions to our community:
