For people who have pets, taking time out to receive medical care and treatment is challenging. Often, they face giving up their pets because they have no one to take care of them while they are away. Removing barriers to care benefits both people and their beloved pets. One of our priorities is to find ways to provide temporary shelter for these pets so their owners can get the medical care they need.
One recent example is how our team helped Poppy and his mom during a time of need. Rogue Valley Street Dogs was pivotal in allowing Poppy’s mom to enter treatment. Michelle, one of our dedicated volunteers, fostered Poppy for two months, during which he proved to be a friendly, playful, and well-behaved dog.
Poppy’s mom was deeply grateful for our support. Knowing he was being well cared for and that she would be reunited with him allowed her to focus fully on her own recovery. With her permission, we neutered and vaccinated Poppy while he was in our care. Once Poppy’s mom was ready, we returned him to her with food and supplies, ensuring a fresh start for them both.
